Simple visitor statistics

This site counts openings of the home page, journal and free chapter to understand what readers find useful. Only totals grouped by UTC day, page category and source category (Reddit, another website, this site, or direct / unknown) are stored.

The visitor counter uses no cookies, browser storage, visitor identifiers or fingerprinting, and does not store IP addresses. Full referring URLs and query strings are not sent to the counter. A Reddit link label may be used to recognise Reddit traffic. The statistics do not identify individual readers or track their journeys.

Requests still pass through the hosting provider’s infrastructure. These statements describe this site’s visitor counter, not a guarantee about infrastructure logs.

Reading and commenting

You can read the site, journal and chapter without signing in. Signing in to comment or use the author desk is separate from visitor counting and uses the hosting platform’s authentication. Submitted comments and the account identifier needed for moderation are stored; comments appear publicly only after approval.
